2019 Darwin Function - Wake
Our thanks go to Jeff and Kaye Dunn (Jeff is the unofficial Mayor of Darwin) for organising a marvellous 4 days of fun and festivities for our 2019 reunion/wake. It was our first venture into the Territory and was the first time we had formal functions over 4 days.
We met in Darwin on Thursday 12 September at the famous Darwin Mindel Markets, said G'day, spun some warries, had a few drinks, watched the sun go down over Darwin Harbour, ate the yummy food and had a great time.
Friday we attended Parliament House Speakers Green and acquired a lot culture. There were two speakers, one a former Treasurer of the NT Barry Coulter and the other a former sailor PT Don Milford. Both speakers had a lot to tell us, Barry is trying to get a former US Carrier to be located in Darwin Harbour on a permanent basis. Both speakers kept us well entertained.
Saturday night we met at the Darwin Novotel, had pre dinner drinks, brilliant dinner and drinks package, music provided by a NT legend Mike Foley and entertained by the CO of HMAS COONAWARRA Commander Darren Rushworth. Darren spoke the language we all understood, had a great sense of humour and told a good story. Another memorable night.
On Sunday for our farewell BBQ, we were guests of the Darwin Military Museum (Jeff Dunn President for 17 years), the Lions Club cooked a great meal, we all toured the museum and were very impressed with the exhibits. It was a sad farewell.
